[Steel Output] African crude steel production tumbled in June

KAMPALA (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region dropped substantially by 17.7% during the month of June year-on-year.

Egypt produced 450,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 34.2% when compared to 684,000 tonnes production achieved during June 2014. Libya’s crude steel output dropped sharply by 36.3% to 50,000 tonnes during the month of June this year. Morocco’s output recovered sharply by 57.9% to 50,000 tonnes, when compared to 322,000 tonnes production achieved during June 2014. South Africa’s crude steel increased marginally to 530,000 tonnes during the month when matched with 518,000 tonnes during the same month a year before.

Egypt’s output has dropped marginally when compared with 457,000 tonnes during May this year. Libyan crude steel output in June ‘15 increased marginally by 1,000 tonnes over the previous month. Morocco’s production dropped slightly during the month. South African production dropped by 20,000 tonnes when matched with the previous month.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first six months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
